Description

Coiled Basketry is the ancient craft of making useful containers and mats with a variety of materials, traditionally coiled basketry items were made using locally sourced grasses and rushes. Starting with a spiral shape which is then worked into the desired shape as it develops, using a binding thread around a core material. Design and create your own coiled basketry item in this workshop and learn a variety of techniques and stitches. Make a small basket or mat, using your own choice of colours and materials, incl. cord, yarn, thread, fabric, rushes, raffia etc.

This workshop aims to give you enough knowledge, skills and confidence to be able to produce coiled basketry items independently.
All materials and equipment are provided. However, if you have any yarn, fabric or thread that you would like to add to your item, you are welcome to bring them to the workshop.

This workshop is suitable for beginners.
