Indigo blue is a natural dye extracted from the indigo plant which grows in tropical countries. Interesting patterns can be created on fabric using a range of techniques including stitching, folding and tying with threads, rubber bands, clips etc.
During the workshop we will make indigo tie dyed fabric samples using a variety of tied, clipped or stitched patterning, including some Japanese shibori techniques. Learn how to make up and use an indigo dye vat. Making use of these tying and dyeing techniques, we will then design our own combination of patterns on a tote bag, or a piece of fabric which you can then take home to be used in another project.
Suitable for all abilities, all materials provided. Wear clothes that you don't mind getting messy, or bring an apron. You may also like to bring your own small garment, like a t-shirt, a similar size piece of fabric or some yarn to tie and dye in the indigo vat.
