Who we are

The Art House at St Matthew’s is a community arts & wellbeing charity for people in Sheffield to support them on their mental health & recovery journey to a more fulfilled life, through the power of art, pottery, connection and friendship.

What we do

Wellbeing - The Art House at St Matthew’s provides rolling weekly art and wellbeing programmes for adults recovering from addiction (the Anderson Green Project) and a welcoming and supportive pottery group (Wellbeing Group). For those participants who may need extra assistance with their mental health, the church’s Parish Nurses are available to provide support and pathways to external services.

Commercial - To generate income to run the Art House we sell a wide range of Art and Pottery courses and one day workshops, offer a Pottery Open Studio membership scheme, hire out space to companies to hold events and curate exhibitions open to the public.

Charitable - We rent out space to other wellbeing organisations who share are values, we apply for grant funding and we receive donations that all help towards delivering our community wellbeing charity.

Our Values

We focus on the needs of our participants by listening to their ideas and experiences.

We support participants in developing their skills, building confidence & growing self-esteem as well as having enjoyment. We do this in a safe and caring environment through our team of dedicated and experienced artists and potters.

We value each and everybody, we see the best in others, and we are open to all. We are here to protect and nurture those who are vulnerable, we treat everyone with respect and by inspiring and empowering people we help to promote human wholeness.

Our Facilities

We have extensive Pottery facilities, a well-resourced Art Studio with printing presses, main Exhibition Gallery and lower Exhibition Gallery, a brand-new kitchen plus café area.

Our Charity Building

Owned by St Matthew’s church, this historic building was a long time ago the old Clergy House and Sunday school. The building was redeveloped into a purpose-built art and pottery studio and opened to the public in 2015 to create our unique and special community art wellbeing charity for people to flourish.
